As per advisory of PAGASA, the on-set of rainy season had just started. In line with this, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-12/DENR provides advisories on areas prone to Landslide and Flooding brought about by strong rains.

Please take note that the municipalities and barangays of the provinces of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani and the barangays of cities of Koronadal, Cotabato, Kidapawan, Tacurong and General Santos with mountainous terrain are prone to landslide and valley/flood plains are prone to flooding.

Landslide is the downward movement of materials (soil and rocks) under the direct influence of gravity.  Rain and water play an important role in the occurrence of landslide.  While flood is the rising and overflowing of body of water that overtop the riverbanks in any part of its course covering land that is normally under water.  The months of June to December are usually the rainy months in SOCCSKSARGEN area.  During these months, the probabilities for the occurrence of landslide and flooding are very high.  Read More
